Failed HS pre calc and 25 years later it STILL haunts me

Date: May 14th, 2024 2:12 AM Author: Startled Gas Station Sound Barrier I had clearly unresolved ADHD and couldn’t study. Like, I didn’t study more than 10 minutes for class. I think first quarter I had a B, then a C in the second quarter, then a literal F on the final. I dropped out of the class mid-year and didn’t return the second semester.
I never took another math class in my life. Went to a 30-50 USNWR ranked school (shockingly good considering how poorly I did in a few classes) and got by with fake math classes like the philosophy courses that counted as a quantitative credit. Poli sci shithead, so much of college was paper writing, which I wasn’t bad at.
While it didn’t really impact me in a literal sense, it created a life long obsession with beating myself up for being low IQ.
I also did very poorly in physics, chemistry, and advanced Spanish, again largely because I couldn’t ever study, I couldn’t focus and I couldn’t get enough sleep.
Later in life I got my shit together, but the academic failure haunts me still. |

I’m not high IQ. But I definitely have ADHD. Adderall changed my life. |

Teacher put me on the pre-calc path despite a 97 where the threshold for calc path was 80 because I never did homework so was rocking a B- in his class. Still have a chip on my shoulder from that and it totally turned me off from math until I took a logic class in college.
