He thought USA deserved the Great Depression and that FDR had lucked into getting out of it by virtue of stumbling into WWII. Germany lost half (!) of its standing Navy in 1941. Britain ruled the North Sea and could get away with whatever they wanted. Yes there were Uboots lurking everywhere but what impact did they have? What battle did they win? None. And they obviously failed to prevent lend lease supplies from two major routes.
