Queens is slightly more affordable but can you stomach saying you live in Rego Park?
The only ‘affordable’ borough may be Staten Island but you’ll need a car, so it ends up being the same as MFH. |

The suburbs further out are exactly like any suburb of any NE metro. Less political upheaval, marginally more conservative at the state level, less taxes. Transit is easy depending on where you live. MetLife, really close to EWR. (Nowadays getting to LGA or JFK is so insane that richmos just helicopter vs finding some normal way to get to the airport.)
The list of reasons to pay more money and pay more taxes and have higher crime and deal with a shitload more problems is so you can physically 'walk' to the opera most people don't actually go to more than once a year? Or you absolutely have to take the subway to MSG or Yankee Stadium? If you grew up there and all your friends live nearby maybe I could see living in Manhattan. Or if you're really into the bar scene and nightlife.
Also this idea that it's so wonderful to not be around proles is so overrated. Once you meet enough MFH finance people you realize they are dull as hell. Does anyone really go holy shit I just dropped 2k on this meal and got to sit across from Jamie Dimon? Wow I'm really living the life. These other finance eggheads are really the most interesting people on Earth!
NJ is for people who want to work in Manhattan and don't actually like Manhattan you can get everything the city has to offer for way less of a hassle. And if you ever want to do anything in New York, you easily can. The people who say NJ is a prole shithole are desperately trying to justify why they give up so much to get so little. |
