Federal or state, any branch of government. I’d pug it higher than US Rep but lower than US Senator or State Governor of SOME states. Which level judges are more or less prestigious than NYC mayor?

Because of federal supremacy, NYC mayor automatically ranks lower than any federal elected or appointed official, even a bankruptcy judge.

Prestige-wise, it's easily top 10. Everyone knows who the president is, most people know the vice-president too. And you probably know who the governors of California, Texas, Florida, and New York are if you're politically engaged. After that, mayor of New York is the elected official an American is most likely to know by name. Congressmen are sort of on their own, they have to fight for fame once they're in, so no Congressional seat has inherent prestige.
