No classifier wants to take the risk of under-classifying a document, so they just give anything questionable a top secret classification, which in turn creates a new standard and so the next iteration any document on the new lower borderline gets classified as top secret. I had to write up a report on a broken washing machine in Afghanistan so we could get it replaced; any guesses what that report got classified as?
“Classified” documents at the end of the trump presidency were probably FOUO at best under the Obama presidency. At this point bog-standard reservists have to get Top Secret security clearances. It’s ridiculous. |
