ANYTHING of value to anyone with it? You bloviate night and day about its greatness but you haven't used it to build zippo fren. Where are the RESULTS? So far u just give ur coin to Anthropic and the Bots Entertain You. Zero ROI! No remuneration for your effort!

AI doesn't need me to prove it's worth. A machine that can converse, improvise, and explore strange ideas on demand is legitimately entertaining, and historically astonishing. What other point does there have to be other than using it for bemused autistic navel gazing?

It's gotta have some value to business interests or else the entire economy will collapse. You being intrigued by it is a small portion of the business. They're not building databases centers because they think more people like you are going to crop up and decide that talking to AI is better than watching football all of a sudden. They're doing it because it's largely assumed that it's going to replace white collar workers, make businesses more profitable, and turbocharge economic growth. Without that it's a failure and it's all going to zero. You don't necessarily have to prove that it's entertaining. But someone has to prove that it's useful, that it's profitable.

I agree that it needs to create enough economic value to justify the current investment levels. But it doesn't necessarily need to do that through replacing white collar labor or producing extraordinary growth rather than just sustaining a profitable market. Even if current investment levels turn out to be excessive that wouldn't mean that the technology has no value.

That's interesting. So you're saying that even if AI can't do shit like be productive, trim the workforce, turbocharge growth, lead us through another economic gold rush/renaissance that it still has an intrinsic value in the OG AI superfan retail consumer class? It can be worth a lot just because people like it and want to keep giving Dario and Sam their money?

Your thoughts, The Penis:

No I think it is already being used productively in software engineering, research and other areas. The uncertainty is in whether those gains will be large and widespread enough to justify current investment levels and the most aggressive forecasts about labor replacement and economic growth. It can be valuable and not meet the most maximalist current predictions.

How can something be incredibly impactful and be overhyped? It either will change the world or it won't. If it's as big as free two day shipping it'll be worth trillions of dollars. If it's a minor masterwork, then it's barely worth anything. So your nuanced hairsplitting is actually the low IQ take.

Since we are just going by "worth trillions of dollar" rather than "generated trillions in net income", then we can already say it's worth trillions. Open AI and Anthropic alone are already valued at $1.8 trillion. Add in xAI and you are already over 2 trillion. And that's before counting Nvidia, Microsoft, Google and the rest of the of the ecosystem.

You don't have to tell me. I put my whole paycheck into stonks every month come hell or high water. The question in the OP was about whether YOU have done anything productive with AI. I know Jensen and Dario have lol.

It amazes me how many people are split between it's the industrial revolution x100 or it's a big nothingburger.

It seems very similar to the early internet days. Maybe people are too enthusiastic and it's overhyped, but that's only because of it's obvious potential and FOMO on being an early investor in the next Google or Amazon. Things may crash for the initial exuberance but AI isn't going away and will certainly have a big impact on the future.

I'm probably a pretty rare case where I have high conviction in the valuations but openly look down on its biggest exponents. In other words, I believe that AI will make the smartest, most productive people even smarter and more productive. Hence the valuations. At the same time I think the average person who talks about AI all day is basically just a consumer and hobbyist who will never achieve anything great with it.

I admit part of my assessment of the VALUE is because I missed out on the original crypto bull run because I was an IDIOT and now I don't want to miss out on owning my slice of the future. At the same time my dad claims he spends thousands per week on Claude tokens and that he's on the verge of developing some sort of AI algorithm that will make the billionaire Jews who sign his paycheck even more money. I have my doubts.
