never owned a playstation myself; i had two gexes on n64 iirc (shrewdly picked up from the blockbuster sales bin)
i think it might be people becoming more aware on some faint and dim level of how nintendo choked out the space for the genres they were most famous for plus the garden variety waves of nostalgia churning up whenever the real world of the present gets too cruddy/hot. gex in particular (glover as well. i've written quite a bit about glover 3d) is also a comedy gold mine and Enter the Gecko was actually pretty fun with some interesting level design choices
i haven't encountered any zoomers who think this. N64 gets so much hype from millennials and the millenialnet that if anything it seems more monolithic than it was at the time
