These shitty PlayStation mascot platformers like Gex and Croc have become memes in recent years, and I'm not sure if it's because of YouTube video essaysist contrarianism or if it's because poors who couldn't afford a Nintendo 64 are now old enough to shove their childhoods down people's throats. At any rate, a disturbing number of Zoomers seem to believe that no one had a Nintendo 64 and classic games like Banjo-Kazooie and Star Fox 64 are only well known because they've been hyped by YouTubers.

never owned a playstation myself; i had two gexes on n64 iirc (shrewdly picked up from the blockbuster sales bin)

i think it might be people becoming more aware on some faint and dim level of how nintendo choked out the space for the genres they were most famous for plus the garden variety waves of nostalgia churning up whenever the real world of the present gets too cruddy/hot. gex in particular (glover as well. i've written quite a bit about glover 3d) is also a comedy gold mine and Enter the Gecko was actually pretty fun with some interesting level design choices

i haven't encountered any zoomers who think this. N64 gets so much hype from millennials and the millenialnet that if anything it seems more monolithic than it was at the time
