ACTIONS
1. Take coastal areas of Ukraine and stay there.
2. Take Kharkhiv and destroy the bulk of the Ukrainian Army. Stay in Kharkiv.
3. Surround Kyiv and lay siege. It is apparent that people in Kyiv will fight fiercely and it would require a lot of artillery to win. Going for it would be counterproductive. At that point negotiate a ceasefire and then withdraw the forces surrounding Kyiv back to Belarus.
END STATE
Create a new country attached to Russia from the coastal areas and east of Ukraine. Although Kyiv was never taken, it was encircled. That's enough to get the point across that Russia could in the future wreck Kyiv. The end result is Russia gets to expand its territory and reduce Kyiv held Ukraine into a neutral and cowered rump of a country. It wasn't a decisive victory but they accomplished their goals.

They're largely succeeding at all three, what the fuck are you talking about??
The post you're replying to and mine below are essentially the same as Russia's apparent current strategy, and the strategy is working fairly well. The only possible way by which you could judge them to be failing at any of these is by not looking at the timeline. These are all significant objectives that will take time to prosecute -- and they are already about a third to half of the way there on day 4. Kiev falls soon.

Could be possible that a Britsh Empire/China Hong Kong style treaty situation manifests where some parts of Ukraine are subsumed into Russia currently as a result of the conflict and then there is a Special Administrative Zone for like 50 years where Ukraine is nominally independent/neutral and then reverts back to Russian control (but, if the Hong Kong situation is to be a guide, after like 25 years they start to clamp down on it).
A resolution like this avoids massive potential for insane amounts of death or bloodshed, world entanglement and both sides are pretty stalemated for enough time for there to be a gradual shift in behavior from both sides.

1. Thermobarics
2. Utilize support fires to prepare advances, the way their own fucking doctrine prescribes lmao
3. Siege the cities, drone anything leaving or entering
4. Plainclothes GRU hit teams in each major city taking out key Ukrainian personnel
5. Stop being really tactically shitty lol -- there's an abundance of footage, at this point, of retarded privates driving unarmored trucks through obvious likely ambush points, doing the same with tracked vehicles and getting Jav'd, and generally being unable to fight their way out of a wet paper bag. This isn't something that they can really just fix overnight, but it's a problem for them.
6. Utilize their air superiority to secure the land borders. They have the resources to get most of the way there.
Realize, too, that Russia is objectively dominating. They're In the middle of Kharkiv, they have ringed Kiev in tanks and are beginning to siege it, and they've taken Kherson and Zaporozhye. A territorial timeline comparison to the US invasion of Iraq reveals that Russia is moving faster than we did. The only difference is that the media isn't on their side for this one, and the propaganda is incessant.

Nobody wants to talk about it, but Russia has a formidable presence in the USA. Agents, lobbyists, congressmen, businessmen, operatives, bots, technicians, immigrants—not to mention, Right wing collaborators and apologists, bought and paid for. They can deploy a wicked strategy/campaign to undermine/subvert/discredit the American pro-Ukrainian position- sewing the seeds for internal dissent and overthrow of the Biden Administration.
