There’s no upside to being honest with them in an exit interview, right?

I’m not going to seek out an exit interview but I strongly suspect the HR person is going to want to document my feedback because I’m being poached by a competitor and several execs in the business will find out this week and will talk to me about it, and she will want to try to find out what I told them. I have an opportunity in all this to trash our group’s lead VP, and he’s likely already on shaky enough ground that it could at a minimum help to block any future progress up the ladder, and could possibly result in a demotion for him. Arguably this is what’s best for the team I’m leaving ie the guy is not evil or sadistic like a boomer but he’s like an archetypal Gen X beta who is drowning and losing the game of thrones at his new level that he only got to like a year ago. It’s a pretty standard issue Peter principle scenario where he’s retreating to tactical stuff because he’s overwhelmed by his failures and invisibility in terms of strategic stuff. But thinking about it especially from a pure self interest perspective it seems much smarter to say nothing about any of this and not get into any of the many pointed critiques I have of him along these lines with many on-point examples of his limitations. whatever negative feedback you give for the VP will almost certainly be swept under the rug as it does not sound significant enough to warrant investigation/intervention. also, you could potentially burn a bridge. |
