Spetsnaz would be intimidating to face off against because russians don't care if they die. There aren't very many "peers" afaik. |

Between the group, there's supposed to be enough skill and expertise to manage things independently.
The problem with modern warfare is that it's hard to sneak up on your adversary. If you're planning anything other than a yuge, staged invasion like Iraq, you have to drop off your guys far, far, far away from any kind of airport or whatever. A lot of times they just hijack civilian vehicles and use them to get around. That's why the Army infantry squad vehicle is so 180. Fuck what ANYONE says, if you can airlift a truck that seats 10, you save that team from having to find local transportation.
I don't think Russia has that problem right now. They wish they could airlift some dudes to within 50 miles of a Ukrainian airport, I'm sure. |

Same with the V-280 that's replacing the Blackhawk. The seating all works in multiples of whatever number Army thinks it needs for its math.

If you were dropped off in some random European village and told to get to the airport as fast as possible, you'd probably steal someone's car, at gunpoint. Except you'd have to steal two or three cars, or even a bus to move 10 men. You're just trying to close the distance at that point. You don't drive that fucking thing into battle.
