Wife signed up our middle son for classes and now they tell her we can’t cance

I told her that I don’t want to do any business with a fly by night organization that won’t let you cancel services. That it’s ridiculous. Our kid hasn’t been in well over a month and it’s crap anyway. She was like “they told me we had a contract and that it renewed and I have to pay the full amount for an entire year.” I told her that this little dojo place is engaging in dishonest trade practices and that if they sue us we can countersue. Then I wrote them a note telling them that we were cancelled and revoking authorization to charge my credit card. Now she won’t talk to me because she’s all worked up about how she represents the community and this worthless business somehow has sway at her job? I’m not sure. I’m just fucking pissed. |

Lady, who was petite and young, just kind of looked at me, a little bewildered, maybe scared, possibly because she's never seen an angry person before, and said "Okay, sir, have a nice day." Then I left. It's that fucking easy folks. |

He'll learn that when someone waves around a piece of paper and says it's a contract, or a policy, that is just a piece of paper, and there's a big difference between having a contract and having the balls to try and do something about it, especially when it's a service-based business trying to enforce an unreasonable and unconventional revenue generating scheme after no services are desired and after notice of termination is given. That's not the kind of thing that'd be easy to enforce. Also, underlying all of this is the fundamental principle of contract law, which is that freedom of contract requires a mutual agreement, and that can be changed at any time, unilaterally or bilaterally, and whether there are consequences for such a change is a different issue. Someone lying to my wife and trying to bully her into agreeing that she entered some agreement she couldn't break is offensive to me and every value I hold. |

He also said he didn't like going, but seemed to like it somewhat when he was there. The problem with that is our resources are limited (time wise). Also, it's insanely expensive relative to swim team or gymnastics. The gymnastics place has to have higher insurance and equipment and they charge about 1/3 or maybe even just 1/4 per month of what this dojo place is charging. It's stupid. If he decides later on that he wants to take physical conditioning seriously, I'll find a not-so-kid-oriented martial arts place and buy him a block of 10 lessons or whatever. No more of this year long contract bullshit. |
