Have about 200K to spend (cash not financed). Was thinking about getting portofino. Can fit kids on short trips. Wife can drive without having to worry about hitting potholes. Gets "Status" of Ferrari and gets me on some lists to buy "real" Ferraris in the future.
Don't want Porsche as dad has a 2022 911s i can drive whenever i want.
what does the bort think

OK -- cool car, doesn't look as entry-level as the California (even if it is related), will hold value a lot better than an Aston or Bentley, I'd drive it.
As for the "not a real Ferrari" crowd, I'm guessing 99% of people making those comments are coming from someone that couldn't swing a Portofino to begin with.

Seems fine for those criteria.
Urus not sporty enough?
488 GTB and Huracan not practical enough?

Yeah I think the car looks awesome and is “practical” by the wildly skewed standards of that class.
I wouldn’t personally get one because my family would mock me forever, but you should.

Yes. To be fair they’re generally nice about every other group (obviously minorities, but they don’t even look down on proles), and aren’t incisive enough about any of them to be cutting even if they wanted to be. But man they’re great at eviscerating anything that smacks of new money or gauche breaches of protocol by non-new money.
You can have a nice house, but god forbid you buy a car sportier than an Audi (which by the way are the most pointless cars in existence).
There is no need for the OP, who gets none of the benefits of this culture, to honor its taboos.

lol wow. If you really want a Ferrari, why not consider a classic. A low mileage F355 Berlinetta 6-speed, perhaps. One of the most beautiful cars ever made and its value should hold pretty well given where things are going for cars.
You looking to keep the vehicle long-term?
Edit - realized you want something that can fit the kids for short trips. Portofino starts to make a bit more sense in that case.

Don't do it, brother. If you're buying a supercar, don't buy an entry level one. Ferraris are great weekend cars, but they're far from practical and they're really not well suited to taking kids on trips or letting your wife drive. They're also a huge pain in the ass to maintain, in part because they're low production and still largely hand built, but also because they're designed for performance. Reliability isn't even an afterthought. They're designed to be driven a couple thousand miles per year with an eye towards the track, not taking your kids on road trips or letting your wife drive to the supermarket.
For your uses, you'll be a hell of a lot happier with an AMG GT coupe, brother. If you can dispense with the back seat, get an NSX. But if you've made up your mind to buy a legit supercar, buy a fucking supercar (entry level =! Supercar). Get a 2012 Aventador or something.
