this splains a lot...
Nadya's father, Shintaro Okamoto, is the founder of Okamoto Studio. He attended Brown University and Hunter College. Nadya Okamoto is no longer in contact with her father and has shared her story publicly of experiencing sexual abuse and violence in her relationship with him as a child.

There is a LOT of backstory here. She also got "close" with a teacher in high school, got him to buy her shit including some lacy underwear, then accused him of being somehow inappropriate with her to up her college admission sob story.
She's also lied about being 'homeless' (another college app plus) and had to walk that back.
Her 'period' org also was exposed as predatory versus other similar orgs and then later on blacks she shoved out exposed the crazy contract terms (her mom is Harvard/Columbia JD, so you know who wrote them, and also how she got in w/ legacy) they signed when they merged with period.
Look up her sisters, they're even bigger disaster zones than this one.

Oh, shit! NOT flame...
https://www.oregonlive.com/education/2020/01/catlin-gabels-dirty-secret-former-schoolgirls-go-public-for-first-time-about-private-schools-dark-side.html
His relationship with Okamoto grew closer, she said. He bought Christmas gifts for the entire Okamoto family, she recalled, and frequently sent her notes. After his mother died, Burnett gave much of her jewelry to Okamoto and her family, she said.
“He would say things like, ‘You’re the girlfriend I never had. I can’t stop thinking about you. You’re beautiful. I’ve never met a woman like you. I’ve never dated a woman like you,’” she said.
In her senior year, as she recalls, he sent her a pair of underwear. “It was lacy women’s underwear,” she recalls.
Okamoto never went to her mother or to Catlin Gabel administrators. She said she was nervous it would be dismissed or she wouldn’t be believed. She also felt that Burnett, for all his weirdness, had been genuinely devoted and helpful to her.
But then, according to Okamoto, her mother discovered Burnett’s letters and gifts in Nadya’s bedroom after she graduated. Shortly thereafter, Burnett was fired.
Burnett tells a much different story. “I never had or wanted a relationship with (Nadya) other than as a family friend,” he said in an email exchange.
Okamoto required a lot of time and attention, he added. “After four years, I was treating (Nadya) more like a stepdaughter than a student. That was my mistake. I should not have gotten that involved in her life.”
He said he doesn’t recall whether he bought her underwear. “I bought her a lot of clothing over the three years,” he said. “I know that I did not buy her anything resembling lingerie.”
Burnett said it is absurd to lump him in with the other abuse cases detailed in the report. They never had sex. On that both Okamoto and Burnett agree. “I never physically touched her and I was not trying to groom her,” he said.
“I worked at Catlin for 20 years,” he said. “This was the only incident of questionable behavior. I don’t believe that (Nadya) was a ‘victim,’ but I know that I don’t get to decide that and that she has a right to claim that she was. Catlin fired me to protect themselves, I get that.”
Okamoto is now a junior at Harvard. She feels bad about the Burnett incident. “It’s hard for me, I feel a lot of guilt. I still feel like I owe a lot of my success to Glenn. I think that’s why he has so much control over me.”

http://www.massnow.org/2020/statement-on-nadya-okamoto-and-period-org
Dear Mass NOW Community,
Recently, menstrual activist Ileri Jaiyeoba wrote a powerful article A Call for Accountability: Anti Blackness in the Menstrual Justice Space about her experience with manipulation and marginalization from Nadya Okamoto and Period.org. Upon sharing, many other activists have come forward with similar stories of plagiarism, efforts to dissolve “competition”, misrepresenting housing instability as homelessness and claiming to be the first on initiatives like National Period Day. As an organization that has partnered with Period.org, honored Nadya with the 2019 Wonder Woman awardee at our Feminist Affair this past fall and is committed to radical transparency and honesty in our ongoing antiracist work – we take these accusations very seriously and are committed to the following action steps:
Nadya and PERIOD are no longer apart of the Massachusetts Menstrual Equity Coalition
Retract the 2019 Wonder Woman Award from Nadya and redistribute the award to QTBIPOC menstrual equity activists in Massachusetts
Convene the Massachusetts Menstrual Equity Coalition this month to reflect on our role and complicity in anti-Blackness and develop an accountability plan with QTBIPOC-led organizations in the menstrual justice space.
Mass NOW stands in solidarity with Black organizations and businesses in the period space, and until PERIOD and Nadya meet the accountability demands of the activists, they will no longer be a part of the Massachusetts Menstrual Equity coalition.
Mass NOW and the Massachusetts Menstrual Equity Coalition is committed to reflecting on our role and complicity in anti-blackness and are doubling down on our work to partner with QTBIPOC-led organizations in the menstrual justice space. The Mass NOW board has decided to retract the 2019 Wonder Woman Award, and instead will be redistributing the award to the QTBIPOC activists who’ve been leading menstrual equity work in Massachusetts. We are still developing what this and accountability overall for our coalition looks like and will be convening the coalition this month to discuss our action plan.
As a currently and historically white led organization, we recognize Mass NOW’s privilege to amplify period poverty without ever having experienced it ourselves – and are committed to working in solidarity with impacted communities and QTBIPOC-led organizations. We know that this means we have blindspots, make mistakes and want to be transparent when we do and hold ourselves accountable. We will be following up more to acknowledge ways Mass NOW & the Massachusetts Menstrual Equity Coalition have been complicit in anti-Blackness and what action steps we will take to dismantle the structures that have allowed for this complicity. The Mass NOW board is currently in the process of developing a racial justice accountability plan for our organization too and would love to hear feedback from our community directly by emailing massnow@massnow.org or anonymously anytime.
We am incredibly proud of and grateful for the activists in this coalition who made us aware of the situation and immediately took action. Read this statement of solidarity on the Massachusetts Menstrual Equity Coalition website. We have shared here some of the black-led organizations and businesses in the menstrual equity space and encourage everyone to support these organizations and businesses and commit to educating themselves, not only by exploring the work of those listed, but also by continuously seeking to find and learn more about black-led organizations and businesses in the period space. You can read a statement from one of our coalition members, the former Brandeis PERIOD chapter here. If you need, here is an anonymous form to share harms experienced from Nadya and PERIOD.
In the meantime, we want everyone to know that it is thanks to Manikka Bowman’s advocacy, by the 2017/18 school year the Cambridge Public School System was the first in the Commonwealth to implement a menstrual product policy in schools. We can’t wait for every school, shelter & prison in Massachusetts to follow in their footsteps. Menstrual products are necessities. Period.

this girls 'business plan' came across my inbox and i did due diligence. august or whatever she's calling it has zero intention of ever being profitable, as far as i could discern it exists for two reasons:
- get this girl exposure, potentially for a political future. as laughable as that sounds with her tiktok this crazy bitch actually ran for mayor of cambridge or some shit like that in college. she has a hard on for being 'first/youngest' to do something. again, resume fodder.
- build up a brand image with gen-z and then sell the company essentially as a brand/influencer to Unilver, SC Johnson, J&J, or some massive conglomerate that makes products like this.

Retail Therapy
Feb 14
Written By Nadya Okamoto
I think that we joke about retail therapy a lot, but if I'm being honest there is something really empowering about going out and shopping and treating yourself. I've had so many challenges with my own mental health when it comes to financial stability, particularly in dealing with often unnecessary anxiety about it. I’ve always grown up with the assumption that if you make money, you should try to save as much of it as possible — and I think I have gotten into the habit of even shaming myself for spending money on myself. In the world of influencer gifting, I look at every purchase of clothing or beauty products as an irresponsible choice because, why wouldn’t I wait to see if I get a similar gift through a brand partnership? I’m trying to push past this unhealthy way of thinking though, because as a wise therapist of mine once said, “what’s the point of making money if you’re not going to be doing anything with it?”
I’m not talking about going for regular shopping sprees - for me, I am still learning to feel good about paying health insurance for myself, and buying organic options of food and not trying to find the cheapest option with the most coupon opportunities. So, baby steps — but progress is progress!

I have major depressive disorder, complex PTSD, and was recently diagnosed with BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder). However, I don’t let these random acronyms define me. I know that they don’t encapsulate who I am — they’re just new vocabulary to help guide my treatment plans and explain the effects of my past trauma. When I first received my diagnoses, I felt relieved because I finally had the language to be able to describe what I was going through. It felt like a battle I was waging in my mind, and after my diagnosis, it finally blah blah blah

Looks like she was "invited to leave" Harvard in 2018. Any real evidence she ever returned (besides her say-so)?
https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2018/11/harvard-student-pens-manifesto-on-menstruation/
Professor Jonathan Hansen: “Nadya is obviously smart, but I wasn’t getting her best every week. I was not the first to suggest she consider taking time off from School, though I was perhaps a little more adamant. Social studies is immensely difficult. I told her: ‘We need all of you, or it’s not going to work.’”
Okamoto agreed, and is using the time off this fall to grow PERIOD [which later canned her ass...shortly before she landed in rehab] and promote the book.
“I haven’t been able to invest in nurturing good relationships with professors because I don’t have time to meet with them. I was getting good grades, but I didn’t read most of the books, and I wasn’t deeply learning,” she said. “Professor Hansen’s comments on my essays felt brutal sometimes, but honest. I didn’t want to feel like 50 percent of my time here has gone by and I haven’t taken full advantage of it.”
