Lol, quotes for home stuff are just absolutely insane

My gardener is a nice man but the guys he's been sending lately have been SPS. So I've been thinking about switching to someone else both for my regular maintenance as well as brush clearance. I pay him $110 per month and he charges $300 for brush clearance, which is a once or twice a year job that takes about 2 hours.
I got some quotes to see if I could do it for $200 or so. Sent out a Yelp request. A bunch of these guys are extremely pushy, and they all have these slick quotes they generate using whatever the gardener Clio or MyCase is.
First quote: $700
Second quote, from guy who I told repeatedly that I could not meet him and to drive by and get back to me with a quote over text, who nevertheless disrupted our babysitter when I wasn't home: $1300
Third quote: $900
Are these people out of their fucking minds? Lol |

i've had a lot of success using it over angies or yelp. every decent contractor has no shortage of work these days. nextdoor or facebook is the only place you might wind up finding a guy who "knows a guy" if you can't find on organically.
adam carolla had a piece of advice on choosing a contractor: the guy with the brand new truck with wrap is going to be stupid expensive, the guy with the old shitty truck is gonna suck. go with the guy with a 10 year old truck that's still in good condition. he's gonna be cheap and quality.
plus it's two hours to clear some bushes, how are you gonna get defrauded? it's not like it's the type of work you can't inspect yourself. |
