When Russia invaded everyone speculated early on that they would make noise about Ukranian biolabs, but they didn't. There were murmurs on social media but no press releases they could link to back them up.
Then Russia dropped biolabs yesterday and caught us flat footed. We had an counternarrative ready to go - just accuse Russia of unleashing bioweapons - but I think we didn't run it because we were waiting for a sign from China. Now Psaki is making sure to mention Russia AND China when launching the counternarrative.
Bottom line: it's petty bickering, no one actually thinks there's a problem with bioweapons here. Our propaganda team just wasn't sure whether there was any harm in accusing Russia of doing biolabs. |
