Gamble their legacy?
You don't get to have a legacy under a dictator, and their lord and master has dictated the terms of their complete surrender to these craven Republicans: “You either get on board with this wealth grab, or you'll end up in the gutter along with your constituents. Your choice.”
What they have gambled is the future of the USA.
Let's call it what it is.

It will have major consequences for the country but there will be no political fallout for Republicans. That should be obvious by now - American voters aren’t able to make the connection between government dysfunction and the actions of their elected representatives.

California truly needs to secede. We give 23% more to the federal government than we take in, which funds over 1/3 of the rest of the country. Even personal-freedoms, "we don't need nobody's help" Texas takes in $1400 dollars per citizen more from the federal government than it pays in.
Let's get all these freeloading red states off of our payroll.

The blatantly irreconcilable aspects of this junk bill are only feasibly signed into law by a political party that has gone off the rails. Adding a (probably underestimated) 3 trillion dollars to the deficit for absolutely no good reason while throwing Americans under the bus is something only the Republicans could pull off. Gullible and ignorant voters and conniving members of Congress are converging in a perfect storm, piloted to catastrophe by a literally not-all-there president and a scheming Supreme Court.
Also, seeing Murkowski and Barasso quoted here has me asking why Alaska and Wyoming are even states. Both are presumably negotiating with congress to look out for fewer citizens (and that’s both states combined) than reside in a few NYC blocks.
