The president doesn't have the power to ban all websites or vpn's. He's very selectively quoting a section without noting that said websites or services can only be penalized if they host an app "controlled by a foreign adversary". The term "controlled by a foreign adversary" is very narrowly defined. Foreign adversary are those countries listed in 4872(d)(2) of title 10, United States Code (the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea, the People’s Republic of China, the Russian Federation, the Islamic Republic of Iran). There are also exceptions and divestiture by the app "controlled by a foreign adversary" can cure the issue.
I don't necessarily favor the bill's approach, but you guys are morons. |
