and we're currently about 100 miles south of Pittsburgh. The fasten seatbelt sign is going to remain on for the duration of the flight: things will get very bumpy if we're intercepted by a Kelthian fighter and forced to take evasive maneuvers. We also ask that phones, tablets, and other electronic devices remain off or in airplane mode for the duration of the flight: they can interfere with the electromagnetic countermeasures that United Airlines deploys against the antimatter torpedoes common in the Galactic Arch. Our flight path to uncharted space will be taking us within just a few light years of the Serpens Nebula, and passengers on the left side of the plane may experience near-lethal dosages of cosmic radiation. As you know, there are those within the United Earth bureaucracy and the upper ranks of our military who believe our mission today is foolish, or impossible. They do not deserve the medals on their chests, or the title of Supreme Strategix. A small crew with a sense of duty can accomplish anything. When I fought in the Second Eridani War, my unit held a small moon against a full frontal Ghalsent attack. Though outgunned and outnumbered, we knew that the success of the entire war effort rested on our ability to hold that moon. This sense of purpose greater than ourselves and our own insignificant lives let us do the difficult, the impossible. I vaporized my own best friend when he became host to an alien parasite: it was hard, but it was also easy because I knew the future was at stake. Today, you and your Charlotte-based flight crew have the highest purpose of all. Somebody must carry on the legacy of the greatbort. Somebody will. Whether it is us, or Flight 2365 to Cincinnati, remains to be seen: but since we have lost all contact with our Star Alliance partners, we must assume the duty is ours and ours alone.

Sigh
This thread would have been more successful if I used paragraph breaks, but that'd be inauthentic
