This is indeed an era of dying. Grunge came along and killed support for metal. Most of the lower tier bands got completely wiped out. Some tried to adapt, like Testament, and barely survived. Pantera picked up the flag and ran as far as they could. Then nu-metal came along. Then a resurgence thankfully came back around 2004.
1990-91 Clash of the Titans tour is the perfect metaphor for the end of thrash/metal...Slayer/Megadeth/Anthrax/Death Angel get put on a tour. Death Angel are literally almost killed in a bus accident and have to drop off...to be replaced by Alice in Chains...Man in a Box explodes...Nevermind comes along...metal is dead. |
