Don't pull that "before my time" crap. I played Medal of Honor when it was brand new in 1999. I know what the PlayStation was like. I could name a bunch I can still go back to. I don't even play RPG's from that system.
Syphon Filter trilogy, Crash Bandicoot trilogy, Spyro Trilogy, Driver, Medal of Honor + Underground, Metal Gear Solid. Tony Hawk 1 and 2, Doom, Crash Team Racing, Crash Bash, Ape Escape, Frogger, Gex 2 and 3, NASCAR 98, Blasto, Castlevania Symphony, Medievil, Rally Cross 2, Q*Bert, Need for Speed III, Need for Speed: High Stakes, Tetris Plus Tekken trilogy, Namco Museum series, various Street Fighter games, various arcade compilations. That's a small example from stuff I've played that I think hold up.
What reason is there to get a GameCube when someone can get a PS2, a Dreamcast, or an Xbox that is able to do both local multiplayer and online? You can't expect a lot of people to drop everything to play a system that only has local.
I want you, TC, to look deep into PlayStation, and to not automatically assume GameCube has it beat. And I would stop with comparing the two as well. That's not what most people do. Compare GameCube to Dreamcast, PS2, and Xbox. You're not doing yourself any favors anywhere by comparing it to the original PlayStation. I also want you to look at the cons of the GameCube and understand why there was more to offer on PS2 and Xbox. This isn't me trying to make GameCube look like the worst system ever, but trying to grasp why that generation had better offerings compared to Nintendo. First party is not always enough.
