Given the high profile nature of the inmate, the nature of his crimes e.g. his manifesto, it's unlikely that the warden or whoever would take him lightly. It is possible in the infinite spans of things they could have messed up and let one slip, but unlikely over the long run that they don't have an explicit plan in place as to what to pull or not pull. |

The prison censors sent the letter back to me saying that it was inappropriate because it showed "gang activity." Apparently a group of 13-year-old white girls in the woods must be a gang. He would have to write someone on the outside to get an address for a lawyer. And they would probably have to do it pro bono as well, because I doubt that he has enough money to pay them market rates. Maybe he has a wealthy supporter on the outside who would be willing to find an attorney and bankroll them.
But the bottom line is that prisons can and do trample on the rights of prisoners all the time because they know that they can get away with it. Unfairly censoring mail is the least of the civil rights violations that most prisoners endure. |
