The earth has a shitload of craters too. The reason you see them on the moon but not here is because there is no EROSION on the moon. If you make a footprint in the moon surface, it just stays there. No wind blows over it.
This is also why moon dust is extremely hazardous. It's composed of tiny shards that formed when other objects collided with the moon, and it's full of microscopic slivers of glass. That's what happens when u don't have an atmosphere.

Try this. Assume a log standing on end, 4 feet in diameter. There is a circular track running around the log, about 220 feet in diameter (so the track is 110 feet from the log).
You are standing in a wagon on the track, so that you always face the log. There is a one foot diameter target on your chest. There are riflemen arranged outside the track, but they are permitted to shoot only the target.
Your view is that the 4 foot diameter log 110 feet away from you provides you with protection?
