I meant more the people who had a home, took advantage of super cheap rates during the pandemic to refinance, got a fixed rate and now have that for the rest of their lives.

depends, some might have just bought a year or two before and the interest rate savings might have not been worth it. but for the most part it was probably just procrastinators who saw the rates low for years and thought they would never really go up then forgot about it and are now kicking themselves.

if youve ever seen an amortization schedule in your life, you'll know that refinancing is always a mistake if you're not shortening your payment term as well. even if you drop several interest points.
