i don't see the problem. i was expecting performative pearl-clutching and everyone calling op an asshole.
i do a lot volunteering with disabled people, mostly children. almost all the parents are divorced and unhappy. the sentiment OP has is very common amongst people that have or grew up with very disabled children. it's not as glamorous or heroic as people imagine it would be. good do some volunteering with heavily-disabled kids and ask yourself if you would choose for that to be *your* life 24/7 with no end.
