Kamala, on the other hand, is unknown. Most people have not heard her speak (theoretically) extemporaneously or at all for more than a couple minutes.

If she is too awkward, unclear, and unlikable, she will lose. If she has a sufficiently mediocre performance, the apparatus supporting her will have enough momentum to take her across the finish line.

There is no second debate, there will be no October Surprise, and there is no large group of thoughtful moderates sussing out abs weighing the policy differences between the candidates. This debate, and more specifically, Kamala's performance in it, is what it comes down to.

My prediction is that she has a decent performance, which is to say, the performance of her life, after weeks of prep and practice, and that's enough for her to claim victory in the debate and the election.
