Indulging the flame post for a minute, do people apply to CS programs now? As opposed to just to the school, where they declare a major after freshman year or something. If so, applicants should send several non CS applications and do a math major or something if needed. |

Date: April 1st, 2025 11:18 AM Author: slippery ape death wish Taking 18 AP exams is absolutely way out of range. For a very motivated high school student 8-10 is exceptional. I'd even wager a guess that 10 is top 1-2% of all HS students. I could believe a super striver taking 12 or 13 exams total, including senior year, and maybe 18 is possible, but certainly not before 12th grade. Also, it's HIGHLY unlikely that the grades on those exams would all be 5/5. Even the brightest students regularly score 4s on AP exams (which is still passing in almost all schools). Finally, if any of this was true, it'd be retarded for him to go to an Ivy League school for his degree. 18 AP exams is probably worth about 70 credits at most state schools. He should absolutely go to a state school, and finish his degree after 3-4 semesters of 15-18 credits. Then he's done by the end of the summer after graduating high school and he can apply to full time internships in tech or whatever he wants to go after. He has the degree checked off, he's not wasting time in college, and he's off to the races at 19 or 20 instead of 22 or 23. |

Plenty of people get 5s on APs as junior, especially history, english, lit, etc. If you are at a great high school, the only “hard” ones are BC Calc and Physics C. Also music theory. |
