Savings is complete shit but I could lose my job and live for a year I guess.
Zero debt except for mortgage. Cars paid off. |

Date: June 27th, 2025 10:59 PM Author: Alcoholic halford 1. actually you do put a lot of money into it, though you're right you can't opt out so i guess in a sense you're not spending it, but more importantly 2. this was in response to the not uncommon comment that pensionmos can just blow their paychecks. that math only works out if you live long enough to benefit from the pension. yeah, if you live to 95, you're going to make a ton of money so why bother saving while you're working. but if you have a heart attack the year after you retire, you made nothing and saved nothing and your family is fucked. so if you're going to ball out pre-retirement make sure you get a nice life insurance policy, because plenty of people drop dead before they reap the rewards. that's part the way they stay solvent. a pension is deferred income, you need to hedge it.
