I worked at Kirkland with NJ Dem governor-elect Mikie Sherrill

She was a nice girl, very prim and proper and well mannered, obviously from a good family. There was an obvious maturity gap between her and a typical mid-20s summer assoc / jr assoc since she was a much older nontrad (since she served in the nacy) plus the military makes people mature. She was very much all business and very professional and there to do a job, and wasn't into making "friends" at work or the pre-ITE party scene or the office gossip bullshit. She was the type of person nobody hated and everyone found nice likeable, but it didn't seem like anyone was really close to her.
I don't recall her ever discussing politics or being political or having any kind of activist bent. (This was also 15-20 years ago, when firms and life just wasn't as political.) It was obvious from her background that she wasn't in Biglaw for the long haul. People with her resume don't grind it out trying to be litigation partners at K&E.
I had no idea she was on a path for elected office, as opposed to the tons of other gov or gov-lite behind the scenes things that former biglaywers do. She definitely kept her political ambitions hidden, which I assume she had all along. It's also interesting, in hindsight, that she wasn't the type trying to be a leader at the firm and making her name known on committee bullshit. She very much blended in there.
I don't know her well, but I got no sense that she's a bona fide shitlib. Her voting pattern as a so-called "moderate" dem plus what I know about her makes me think that she's purely an opportunist.

"she's purely an opportunist"
they all are, look at "JD" Vance's history

Yes, good analogy. In hindsight, her military service was surely a calculated stepping stone to politics... exactly like JD's.

Or she's not a bona fide shitlib and is actually a moderate dem? Compare that with someone like JD Vance who's shifted with the winds of the modern right.

She votes 100% for the shitlib agenda because that's how the swamp works, regardless of her being a "moderate." She grew up in the beltway and I don't know what her parents do, but I bet they're swamp and probably were eGOP. If you asked me 15-20 years ago to pin her down politically, I would have guessed that she's a republican. I bet she's a closet eGOP who just hates trump and is left on women's issues.
