Date: December 8th, 2025 9:29 AM Author: ...,,..;...,,..,..,...,,,;.., i first thought you're on to something. indeed, the major pro sports all have specific names for their title game that is distinguished from the rest of the playoffs -- world series, super bowl, stanley cup finals, nba finals.
but i dont see this as compelling as to why it's called a playoffs vs a playoff. seems like it's just marketing / psychological because purists care about the regular season in cfb and playoffs sounds more destructive to the regular season. |

4 teams is still two rounds. one could say there's a playoff and a championship game, and not playoffS. but who knows

yes, this goes back to the NFL and AFL days. but if you apply this to the NBA or NHL, it doesnt work. each conference in the NFL has playoffs and its all playoffs. |
