the only good argument against AI is also the most effective one: that the actual effects of AI on society will be negative, rather than positive. that it is qualitatively different from all other technologies, in that it displaces humans themselves, rather than just human labor
anti-AI polemicists really need to hammer this point home at the exclusion of all other complaints about AI, which really only serve as red herrings that de-legitimize AI complaints in the eyes of the public |

They would quickly get to 100xing our solar build out and undercutting the Chinese panel companies plus they’d have micronuclear plants going from groundbreaking to fully operational inside of 12 months. This plus AI robotics could severely damage the Chinese economy, which the U.S. desperately needs to balance things out after Trump’s retarded war with Iran. And it would have the added benefit of destroying the businesses and careers of millions of boomers who have built their lives around the assumption that the quasi-governmental powers of utilities will always shape the economy and energy policy. The better objection is that we haven’t ever really solved spent fuel/waste storage, and any expansion or new mass adoption of nuclear requires that we do. I’ve always said we need to get treaties with desolate shithole countries to bury it there. A giant nuclear waste pit in the middle of the Sahara desert seems like a reasonable solution for the next 100 years of human progress at a minimum.
