there’s a reason that the trope of the social misfit getting picked on is so prevalent. normal people have a deeply rooted instinct to call out the weird and off-putting. it’s so innate that it likely provided an evolutionary advantage in some distant age of our history. most people—even xo poasters—eventually mature enough to curb this impulse. and most dorks—yes, even xo poasters—eventually learn enough painful lessons to be able to fit in at the margins of polite society. however, some of those dorks develop a masochistic urge to replay the traumas from their youth, like a child abuse victim developing outre sexual proclivities. this drive causes the dorks to provoke normal people into re-affirming their social status and these provocations, in turn, provide enough cover for the normal people to indulge their inner cruelty. it’s a sad cycle and one you actively work to perpetuate with every poast.
