We are constantly going through how retirement destroys you. Their grandfather is still working at 67, although his wife is now retired. On the other side, their other grandfather retired at 72.5 from his W2 job, but now he lives on a cattle ranch with about 1300 head of steers and is working harder than he ever did when he was an office drone and he is now 75, and then they have their Oma. She is chronically depressed, recently divorced, hasn't worked for several years and spiraling down the drain--highly erratic, constantly getting into car wrecks, and driving me fucking crazy. We keep it as a religious day of observance. Kids get a couple gifts in the vein of St. Nicholaus but it does not overshadow the birth of Christ.
Warning: people freak out when learning you never taught your kids to believe in Santa, but this is not that unusual among religious communities |
