The pistols and the Ramones were art fags who had no business pretending to be musicians of any kind, let alone rock stars (or rock anti-heroes or whatever you want to call them). It’s obnoxious how much credit both bands get because they excelled at the art faggy publicity games of that moment when all of their forerunners (Stooges, MC5, VU, NY Dolls) contemporaries (eg The Clash, Bad Brains, Buzzcocks) and successors (Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Minor Threat) made much better music and were 100x more influential on the genre in every way other than hair/clothes and being dicks to reporters while being interviewed.
