Obviously it is harder if you live in some mega city, but if you live in a town outside of one you can get involved in real things that have influence. Local economic boards, chambers of commerce, school boards, PTA, your HOA, etc. Introduce yourself to your neighbors and be friendly.
It sounds like you would rather be a fat faggot (and tell other people to follow your example) than put in effort that allows you to become influential to people in your immediate surroundings.
