Earth will lose gravity for 7 seconds on August 12, 2026. Millions will die.

NASA denies claim of Earth losing gravity for 7 seconds this year
Rob TaubJan 19, 2026 / 10:55 PM CST
NASA experts have denied the claim Earth will lose gravity for seven seconds in 2026.
A rumor spread on social media recently warned of a brief loss of Earth’s gravity on Aug. 12. The rumor claimed the seven seconds would cause a global catastrophe and described a secret NASA program called “Project Anchor.”
The alleged initiative claimed it had a budget of “$89 billion” and was responsible for “building underground bunkers.”
“The Earth will not lose gravity on August 12, 2026,” a NASA spokesperson said.
“Earth’s gravity, or total gravitational force, is determined by its mass. The only way for the Earth to lose gravity would be for the Earth system, the combined mass of its core, mantle, crust, ocean, terrestrial water, and atmosphere, to lose mass.”
NASA officials confirmed there will be a solar eclipse on Aug. 12, and it will be visible in specific regions. The event occurs when the moon aligns with the sun so that it appears obscured from our perspective. They added the eclipse will pose no danger.
“The gravitational attraction of the Sun and Moon on the Earth, which doesn’t impact Earth’s total gravity, but does impact tidal forces, is well understood and is predictable decades in advance,” the NASA spokesperson said.

This isn't even true. If another massive object approached close enough to earth, Earth's gravitational pull would be negated on objects between earth and the other object.
