Every team has data on where every batter tends to hit the ball and the positional players are instructed to shift around the field to wherever that is. That type of thing used to never happen to the extent it does now. Pitchers are also better than ever before, as someone else said. You basically can’t get into the majors without throwing 95+ with location and ability to change speed. This results in lots of strikeouts where the ball never gets put into play. The combination of these two factors is what’s causing the anemic batting average. |
