Date: July 28th, 2021 8:49 PM Author: histrionic rigor The Twin Cities is a bit weird for a fairly large city because it's very insular. People grow up here, understandably like it and don't leave. As a transplant it's harder than average to break into friend groups, etc. There's objectively just a lot more stuff going on in the Twin Cities though, so I like it for that. I feel it's easier to hit the 'reset' button in life in a bigger metro area.
As for fandoms, there are LOT of Wisconsin transplants here, so by and large Minnesotans are used to being amongst Packer fans. It's far easier to be a Packers fan in MN than it would be to be a Bears fan in WI. I do feel a bit like I'm in enemy territory but it kinda works out okay for me because the Packers have been a superior team for decades.
As for "GBTW" - I don't see myself returning to the parts of WI where I grew up, but that's more of a personal thing. My parents are overbearing and I don't enjoy living near them. The Twin Cities are actually close enough to the WI-MN border that one could GBTW and still live in the Twin Cities area. There's a number of nice Wisconsin towns on the border where it's a very doable commute to most of the Twin Cities metro. It's a very interesting concept because they have good schools and you're politically insulated from MN shitlibbery. |
