hangover from 70s boomers' mentality re: drugs, which was basically: once you start using drugs, you do it every day and don't stop. unlike millennials who will do shit like smoke 1 cigarette every six months or take a vacation and build it around taking a single dose of shrooms. boomers just went all in and would take LSD and coke for breakfast for years on end. they also had much less sense of the danger of drugs. people who grew up in the Space Age were propagandized to believe 'drugs' and food additives were 'high tech' and a miracle value add to human well-being.
athletes were just slamming steroids with little sense of 'cycling' or risk mitigation, because that's how people did drugs in the 70s. Lyle Alzado said he went on juice in like 1970 and never came off.
