FOND DU LAC (WLUK/WITI) - A former school resource officer charged with having an inappropriate relationship with a high school student now faces bestiality charges for allegedly having inappropriate sexual contact with a dog at his Fond du Lac County home.
Steven Rosales, 34, of Campbellsport, was charged last week in Washington County with two counts of misconduct in office and one count of sexual misconduct by a school staff member. Prosecutors say he exchanged explicit photos and more than 9,000 texts with Kewaskum High School student he met while the school’s resource officer. The next hearing in that case is May 28.
While investigating that case, police reviewed the contents of Rosales’ phone, and found conversations “regarding Steven engaging in sexual intercourse and cunnilingus with his dog.”
In the texts, he describes the interactions with the dog, and also explains his behavior.
“I know, but still a weird thing to hear. And it's illegal. I just don't want you thinking I'm a weirdo. I just want you to understand that's what happened when I have alone downtime,” one text from Rosales states.
Police went to Rosales’ home in Campbellsport, where they found three dogs, all Golden Retrievers. Rosales said the contact was with just one of them, a 4-year-old named Tolula.
“Steven confirmed there were messages sent between him and Witness 1 about involving animals and sexual acts. Steven said he did this to try to get Witness 1 to be aroused by his actions,” the complaint states.
Rosales was charged Tuesday with three counts of bestiality – engaging in sexual contact with an animal, one count of photographing bestiality, and one count of attempted bestiality – publishing obscene material of sexual contact with an animal. An initial court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday morning in Fond du Lac County court.
Kewaskum Police said Rosales is no longer employed by the department.
The Kewaskum School District said in a statement: "We are troubled by the allegations in the complaint and are cooperating with law enforcement and prosecutors. Student safety and welfare is a top priority for us, and we will continue to work together to ensure that the Kewaskum School District will be an exceptional place to learn for our students."
