Is it worth it to learn to file own tax via TurboTax? My dad's accountant is retiring and sold his company to a new grad who is incompetent. My dad had to double check and change a bunch of stuff in order not to get double taxed. The old accountant actually had some useful suggestions(but didn't know anything about backdoor roth ).

Filing taxes if you're a W2 worker with basic investments is easy.

If you have non W2 income or mildly complex investments just pay a competent accountant

I only have stock trading, that's easier to file than standard w2 deductions. But I'll have a component of self-employed work where my father used to consult with his old accountant. The new accountant is clearly less competent than my father. So if I read about tax rules I should be able to just have my father doublecheck

The tax code is in large part a reading test, but there’s a lot to read. You’ll fuck it up.

In what world is it more efficient for you to "just read the tax code" rather than just paying a guy $800 to tell us u all the right deductions?

If your wife works and is retarded it's good to get someone else to do it. Women respond obediently to random Suit Men/Shrews who tell them "send me this piece of paper." Try to get your Woman's W2 for your own purposes without a power of attorney and you may as well file for an extension imo.

Same for things like child-rearing (nanny). Most "wives" afaik are Tyrants who try to Ruin everything they touch.
