I think I read this in Miles Davis' autobiography. The story was that Herbie and his band were getting on a flight and they all had first class tickets. Turns out Milton Berle also had a first class ticket and was already boarded while Herbie and his bros were boarding. At some point Berle muttered something about "headhunters" and this was the band's response:

Looks like I may have gotten the story a little mixed up. I read the book in the 1990s man.
Head hunters was inspired by Herbie Hancock by a sad anecdote Miles Davis, when he was his pianist. In 1948, while playing the Three Deuces in Charlie Parker's band, Miles Davis had heard a thought from comedy Milton Berle, who was seated listening to them. When someone asked him what he thought about training and music, Berle had responded with a laugh, that it was a group of "headhunters", in other words savages. This remark particularly shocked Miles Davis, who responded almost 25 years later, while he was travelling in first class on the same flight as Milton Berle. Davis presented himself to Berle, reminded him of the words he had uttered that evening, and said, "I don't like the name you gave us that evening, Milton. And no one in the orchestra liked it. Then he replied to Berle, who assured him to be really sorry, "I know you are now, now that I told you so. You weren't at the time," and turned your heels to his place.
