I doubt the firms actually thought H.I. was a slut, but the fact that a number of vocal people in cyberspace do (or at least say she is) makes her a P.R. liability for the firm.
Same thing goes for the Jon Schoewetter/Notre dame dude. Sure, his arrest was a matter of public record, but now if clients try to google his name all they'll see is the bad stuff perpetuated on this board...and this reflects poorly on any firm that would hire someone with his "reputation". |

I might just be nosey-er than most, but I pretty much Google anyone I intend to do regular business with. I like to know who I'm dealing with, and anything about their background that can help me get a better angle on working/doing business with them. In this day and age when such background checks are possible at the touch of a button, I don't think I'm alone in this regard.
In any event, I doubt *ALL 16* firms Googled her. That seems a bit much. But it is possible that a couple firms did Google her, and these may have been firms that would've otherwise found her to be an impressive candidate and made her a summer offer.
We must also keep in mind she's a 1L, and paid firm jobs as a 1L summer are hard to come by even without worrying about your online reputation being sullied. |
