Just as the smartest people don't need to say, "I am smarter than you" to anyone (and if truly smart, know better than to say it as well), people who are truly "elite" people never need to state such - it simply shows by how they act (and how they treat people in general).
Just as I am not tall, but can tell a tall person when I see one, I am not elite, but can tell elite from not elite and one of the easiest ways is when someone goes out of their way to try to make it seem like they are superior.
I admire his wanting to control his sexual activity till marriage (it sure isn't easy and I credit those who can pull it off to not pull off their pants), but other than that, I am not sure I've seen anything to admire, which is a shame as he must have some other stuff going for him to have gotten into an Ivy school, but it just hasn't showed in what I've read (which is nothing but "I pwned you" and the like). If our son was acting this immature, I don't care what his SAT score or GPA or other qualifications, I'd yank him from college (Ivy or otherwise, and especially Ivy if he was acting arrogant) until he learned to deal with people in a more mature manner.
Some people have asked how I can share as I have on this board knowing my son could read it, and I grant that I'd be embarrassed by an "outing" (though I again feel our son would deserve whatever trauma he might suffer if he reads here as I have specifically told him to steer clear, which could mean he had read here and is just keeping it quiet so he can keep doing it, who knows) but I really wonder what would happen if EG's professors, parents, neighbors, etc. saw what he posts here. I am sure he has the respect of his girlfriend and some others in 3D, but does he think he would maintain that respect if they saw his arrogant, condescending attitude? |

Crazybug was put on the waitlist and notified (in late June) of notification that he had been taken off the waitlist.
My test scores were very similar to Crazybug's (not sure of his SAT 2's), and I missed his score by only ten points. Strangely, even my GPA was much lower than his, and I was admitted as a scholar, and he-- not even accepted to SEAS in the RD round. |

2) Cultural outings and events-- This includes free dinners, tours of New York, free broadway shows, etc-- for scholars only.
3) Guest speaker presentations-- these are usually made by extremely famous/successful people. This year we have a Pulitzer Prize winner speaking about textbook censorship, etc.
4) First priority for all graduate fellowships/scholarships. Since anyone applying for graduate fellowships/scholarships has to go through the office of fellowships/scholarships, we as scholars get the first headsup/priority on all scholarship/fellowship opportunities. Since the people in this office interact closely with us on a monthly basis, we will get to know the admissions on a personal as well as academic level.
5) "Connection dinners"-- these dinners are specifically designed to connect scholars with internships and other opportunities available after graduation. Scholars are given guidance and focused to become global leaders in the international community.
Again, all the aforementioned events are for scholars only, and are perhaps the only opportunity for students to interact with the otherwise indifferent administration. |

How I became elite: I went to Cranbrook (Bloomfield, MI) for high school, did well (obviously) and went to Yale, graduated last year with a B.A. in history. It's an easy major, I realize, but it allowed me to get into Harvard's JD/MBA joint program.
I would have preferred to stay at Yale for law school and was admitted, however I chose Harvard because Yale's business school is TTT.
